Today Mrs Bodman (with help from Scarlet) came in to tell us about their large pig farm. We watched a very interesting DVD about their farm, and we learnt about the high level of care they receive .

On Wednesday 6th July, following our success in the recent Devizes area Orienteering festival, a team went to the Wiltshire School Games to represent Five Lanes. As well as taking part in Orienteering, we got to try out some other sports and activities in the athletes village. We had a great day.

As part of our learning theme this term (Food and Farming) we visited Caen Hill Countryside Centre this morning. it gave us the opportunity to get up close to, and touch a range of farm animals.   We also saw arable crops, and learnt about these.

Saturday 25th June 2016

Here is the 'B' team at the Dauntsey's cricket tournament.  They played some excellent cricket and won their division.  Our 'A' team also played some super cricket showing excellent skills, winning two of their three matches.  Our combined points meant that we were joint first overall - a fantastic result.

These photos are of our fabulous Tag Rugby team who won at the tournament in March (out of a total of 24 teams) and here we are at County Finals at the Rugby Club in Royal Wootton Basset.

After some excellent matches which were totally thrilling we finished seventh, which must mean that we are the seventh best  tag rugby team in the whole county of Wiltshire!  What an achievement!

We were so excited when the day of our trip finally arrived, and we had a thrilling trip to Stonehenge.  In the morning we caught the shuttle bus to experience the wonder of Stonehenge.  After that we walked up to one of the burial mounds where we 'buried' two boys with all their belongings to take into the after life.

After lunch we were free to explore the Neolithic houses, go to the shop, and learn from the exhibitions.  What a fantastic day it was!

Every year we have our Plant Sale and village fete and donate the proceeds from the cake stall to a worthy charity.  This year we chose Julia's House which is a hospice for children.  Money is needed for the proposed one in Devizes, so we made cakes, and many people kindly made them at home.  In this photography Mr and Mrs Mitchell came into worship to talk to us a all, and to explain about the purpose of Julia's House and how the money could be used.

We managed to raise £128 which  is amazing - well done everyone!

Here we are visiting the Roman Baths in Bath, we learnt all about what is was like to be a Roman citizen. We made mosaic patterns and even got to dress up.

8.3.16 Congratulations to all the children who took part in the tag rugby festival today, they all played brilliantly and showed great tag rugby skills and teamwork. 24 teams took part from local primary schools at Devizes Sports Club. Our B team finished 5th in their group and our A team outperformed everyone else and were overall winners of the tournament, a massive well done to you. They will now go onto represent the Devizes and Lavington area in the county final.
3.3.16 Today is World Book Day - don't we look fabulous in our costumes? We all discovered new books that we might like to read and enjoy.

Here we are in our music lesson.  We are composing a song for the Chinese New Year using the pentatonic scale.

Here we are playing a game which helps us use subordinating conjunctions.  The winner achieved three in a row!

Term 4

In science we have been investigating electrical circuits and using our knowledge of conductors and insulators to make switches.

On Monday 8th February Mr Henley came to talk to us about the Bloodhound car which is a British project to try and break the land speed record. Some of us designed a model rocket car and we all watched it race across the playground.

Term 3 We have been investigating changing materials in science and really enjoyed making erupting model volcanoes.

Visit to the Bristol Progressive Synagogue on Thursday 19th Nov, where we learnt about Judaism and what happens in a Jewish Synagogue.

Term 2 in DT as part of our Streets Ahead topic, we designed, made and tasted sweets suitable for the Hindu festival of Divali. They were delicious!

Term 2 - drawing Rangoli patterns which are used by Hindus when celebrating the festival of Divali

Take a look through our Rugby World Cup mascots designed and made over the holidays  by Elder class, including the 3 winning designs which were very difficult to pick. I'm sure you'll agree that the children worked very hard, were exceptionally creative and produced some amazing mascots. Many thanks for all the parental support given for this homework project.

Term1 homework - Rugby World Cup Mascots

On the last day of term our World Cup Rugby theme culminated in the whole of the Worton site taking part  in our own  'World Cup' tag tournament supported by 4 coaches from Devizes RFU. The children were split into the 8 quarter final teams and the eventual winners were South Africa beating New Zealand by 5 tries to 4.  They also learnt about the core values of rugby: teamwork, respect, enjoyment and discipline and an award was also given to team Argentina  who showed these values throughout the day. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was a great end to the term.
South Africa the winning team!
Today Chestnut Class came over to the Worton site for their Rugby Day.  We took this opportunity to become reporters, and here we are interviewing some of the children who took part.  We also took plenty of notes which we will use to write our newspaper reports about the event.
