We had our first real life superhero visit from Wiltshire Police. We found out about the work that they do and talked about the different ways they help keep us safe.
We have moved this term to exploring and investigating materials, ready to choose the best ones to help us make our own fantastic superhero capes. We noticed that within our classroom, there were lots of different materials- have a look at what we found...
We really love all the exciting things we learn with Big Maths, counting in 2s being one of them. This has helped us to recognise even numbers and will support us with our halving and dividing work that we'll be moving on to!
We had a fantastic time at the Devizes dance festival and really enjoyed putting together our space dance. The students really helped showed us how to create lots of different shapes with our bodies and our grand performance in front of the other schools went really well!
Our class were visited by Buddy and his helpers from the NSPCC. They talked to us about the importance of speaking out and staying safe. We then looked at the PANTS underwear rule in class, designing our own fancy pants to help us remember how to stay safe. We really enjoyed the Pantosauraus song below...
We've had great fun learning new skills in Beech class and have found some catchy tunes to help us with out counting and doubling. Use the link below and have fun with them at home!
Welcome back to Beech class. We hope you had an enjoyable festive break! We have jumped straight back into our learning, thinking about New Year and the challenges we can set ourselves to achieve. Each of us has set ourselves a target to achieve by the end of term- wish us luck! Below are just a few snaps of some of the things we have been up to this week!
We had lots of fun playing 'subtraction squish'. To help us work out the answers to our calculations, we 'squished' the number we were taking away. We then counted how many were left unsquished, to find the answer- a great game to play at home with shaving foam!
We are well under way with using our new phonics scheme, Read Write Inc, in school. We have been practising how to say our sounds purely, without adding and 'uh' to the end. If you're interested in what that sounds like, have a look at the video below.
We've been practising counting backwards this week, which is one of the most trickiest skills to master. We've used lots of practical activities and equipment to help us with this!
A warm welcome back to Year 1, who this week have been busy settling back into new routines and reviewing their learning from their Reception year. We've been very busy and our enjoying our new theme, The Jungle Book, so far. We've sketched animal eyes, paying attention to detail, created jungle images on the computers and practised our numbers by counting animals. We've also made lots of preparations for the new children to start in our class!
